Attracting what you want is a science

Before I write about Law of Attraction: The Science of Attracting More of What You Want and Less of What You Don’t, I have to give a shoutout to the people at http://www.jamsbio.com

So, now I can go back to my “book review”.

I actually bought Law of Attraction first before I did The Secret. But I would highly recommend reading The Secret first before you tackle Law of Attraction because TS pumps you up about the concept and LOA provides you with the detail that TS left out. Think of LOA as the exercise book for you to practice what you’ve read in TS — although I think that TS has its own workbook available in major bookstores.

So, anyway, I got a clear sense of how to use LOA after reading the book.

Although the concept is the same, LOA explains it differently, if not simplifying the whole concept. First it talks about how everyone has positive (being grateful) and negative vibes (bitching about someone you dislike) and how the use of the right words can change a negative vibe to a positive one.

For most of us, it’s easier to pin down what we don’t want than what we want. This book explains how we can use that to our benefit. Listing down what we don’t want can get us closer to what we actually do want.

Once you have identified what you truly desire, give your desire attention. There are a few tools to help you do this. This book recommends putting it in writing — something like a mission statement, something that you can refer to whenever you need a boost.

The next step is to will it to happen. The same principles (from TS) apply. You jot down what you’re grateful for (in your gratitude journal) and a few examples of how LOA has worked for you. The key word is believing. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that something is working when you can’t see the proof. So, write them down.

You will be surprised to know that good things (proof that LOA exists and is working for you) are already happening to you. Say you wished for more wealth. You may not suddenly get a cheque for RM1m now but you may start having people offer to buy you lunch, free gifts, rides home etc. And then the good stuff happens. You get a brilliant business idea from your lunch meeting or conversation in the car etc. Then, you’ll be on your way to earning your first million.

Some people think it’s not as easy as that. But who says it can’t be?

All you have to do is be open to things. Be grateful for what you have now because being grateful makes you feel positive. And being positive attracts positive vibes and people to you. And you never know where that is going to lead you!

The important thing is to believe, to have faith. Successful people are those who believe in themselves, even when others think they’re crazy. Pessimists never achieve much, do they?

The biggest hurdle to practicing LOA is doubt. Doubt will always creep in but there are ways to minimise or silent your doubt. This goes back to your choice of words. For example, if you’re obese, you will feel silly telling yourself that you have a great body.

BUT if you tell yourself that you’re in the process of obtaining a great body, you will feel a sense of hope that one sweet day, a great body will be yours. Suddenly, the idea of getting a great body is not so unreachable. Because everything is a process right? So, you’re not kidding yourself. When you’re positive ad you believe in something, it will happen to you.

When you believe that opportunities to obtain a great body will come your way — that you will win a gym membership etc — chances are you will. Because when you give attention to something, notice how you will inadvertantly attract it. You want to open a cafe? Notice how you will be peeling your eyes for cafes to visit, wherever you go. When you visit the cafes you get ideas. Who knows, you’ll start talking to the cafe owner and he’s thinking of getting a business partner and offers you the chance? When you believe, somehow things will conspire to help you succeed.

Three years ago, I started dreaming about becoming a gym member but I couldn’t afford the monthly fee before. But that didn’t stop me from visiting gyms and asking around about the facilities. I always buy fitness magazines and started getting home videos to workout at home. And guess what? Not too long after that, my office set up a gym free for all employees.How great is that? I never thought of that as LOA before, but now I do.

Some people say that in the wrong hands, LOA can be a dangerous thing. I honestly believe that’s wrong.

Why? Because LOA only works for positive things. It only works when you have a good heart and good intentions. Wishing someone ill will only backfire because you attract what you give your attention to. If you’re obsessed about making someone’s life miserable, rest assured that your life will be too. Remember, what you attract what you wish for!

And LOA has all the tools and exercises to help you make your heart’s desires clearer. I bought it on MPH online for RM34. For a book that teaches you to be a positive person, I think it’s worth every penny.
