This is probably one of the most bizarre disorder that I have ever heard of. How on earth is it possible to wake up one morning and suddenly have, say an African accent?
But if you’ve had a stroke or have hit your head quite hard, you’ve got a 1 in a million chance of losing your tone of voice and the accent you grew up with.
You have to see this video where three American women prove that this strange but disheartening syndrome exists and CAN happen to you.
According to Wikipedia,
Between 1941 and 2006, there have been fifty recorded cases.
That’s not a lot but still a substantial number. Scary isn’t it? And coincidentally, the cases I’ve read on the Internet are all women.
So, if you had a choice of changing your accents forever, which would you pick? (Not that that these women had a choice of which accent they get) :P
