Que sera sera

Posted in me on August 30, 2007 by suziemclean

My friend had just announced her good news. She is expecting her second baby.

I am thrilled for her and a little envious too. Now that I have been married for over a year, I’d have to say I am a little sensitive when people mention about babies in my presence.

Before you take it the wrong way, I am in no hurry to conceive. But at the same time, I can’t help but to wonder why I haven’t.  I know what you’re going to say. If it bothers me so much, I should see a doctor. But I am not. Not so much.

I haven’t gone to the extent of crying out of frustration every time my period comes (like a girl I know apparently did) but it gets to me when people ask, “still no sign?” Well, I still have my period, so guess not!

Sometimes I ask myself if I am ready, truly ready for the responsibility of having a mini me or mini far1dz. I suppose no one can be truly ready for these things. My motto is, cross the bridge when you get there. Seems a little reckless but, what can I say? It’s how I really feel about the situation.

Let’s face it. Although I welcome a new member to my small family anytime soon, I’m still aiming to shed a couple of pounds. I’m not exactly ready to trade my skinny jeans with maternity pants. But when it happens, I’ll gladly don that maternity pants. At least I can say that I exercised and ate healthily before the pregnancy!

Sometimes when I am running on the treadmill or just exerting myself at the gym, I wonder if I am putting my (non-existent) child in danger. But I think God is greater than that. I have faith that if it’s meant to happen, it’s meant to happen. I could be at “it” like rabbits and wasting my life away eating tubs of ice cream while watching CSI back-to-back episodes and still have a miscarriage, for instance.

So, que sera sera, right?

Another beyonce post

If anyone in Malaysia gives Beyonce any problem about wearing short skirts and hot pants, she should just show them this video.

It’s doctor’s orders you know!

I love this video. It’s amazing how gmail manages to send e-mails in a blink of an eye! :-P

Were there signs?

Posted in movies on August 30, 2007 by suziemclean

To say that I was shocked to read this news is an understatement. First I read that he had been admitted to the hospital. Now this? Who would have thought?

Owen Wilson doesn’t strike me as the suicidal type. He’s so funny in all his films, you’d think he doesn’t have a care in the world off screen. Ok, he is not the No 1 comedian but he’s not doing too badly either. What I’m trying to say is, to me, his career is not reason enough to slit his own wrists or take 20 tablets of sleeping pills or whatever is was that landed him in the hospital.

Of course, everyone has his off days. Sometimes when things get rough, it’s easier to wish that the world would just stop spinning than to deal with the issue. Leaving the worries of the world by “leaving” the world seems like a good idea when problems are too much to bare. But to have suicidal thoughts — like imagining yourself jumping off a tall building — and acting on those thoughts are two different things. My question is: what could be so overwhelming and great to have caused him to attempt to take his own life?

By coincidence, I am currently reading a novel about two teenage lovers who made a suicide pact. Something went wrong and one of them survived. At where I stopped reading, both sets of parents are trying to come to terms with what had just transpired, especially with the fact that they did not see it coming. As far as they are concerned, there were no signs.

In Wilson’s case, were there signs? Only he can tell.

One night only!

Posted in concert on August 28, 2007 by suziemclean

I heard that Beyonce is coming to Malaysia in November. I’m not a big concert-goer but I’m really interested in going to this one.I hope her tickets are affordable. I paid RM200++ to see Mariah Carey sing in 2004, so hope I don’t have to fork more than that for B’s.

Beyonce

Beyonce (above) to perform a one-night only show in Malaysia reportedly in November but probably not dressed in something as short as this. Trust that she has been amply warned by fellow celebs the Pussycat Dolls and Gwen Stefani about the dresscode here. Picture courtesy of www.rocknroll.com

Mariah’s concert was surreal. So surreal that I have very little recollection of that night *lol*. I’m pretty sure I had one of my out-of-body experiences then. But I do remember that our seats (I went to the concert with my husband – then boyfriend – and two friends) that night were not hot.

If I do go to Beyonce’s concert, I hope to get good seats, in an area where the people actually know the words to the songs. During Mariah’s concert, some of the people around my seat didn’t even sing to the songs. Bosan giler!!

I think they just went to the concert so that they can tell their grandkids that they went to see Mariah Carey in concert once. The atmosphere at the Boyz II Men concert a couple of months ago was definitely better.

I’m very excited about Beyonce coming to Malaysia. I wonder what stunts she will “pull” this time literally. Will she be lowered from the stadium’s ceiling HEAD FIRST and onto a day bed as she sang to Baby Boy ala her London concert? Will she fall off the stage head first and pick herself up and go on with the show like nothing happened? That would be interesting to watch *lol*.

I’m thinking of setting up a special Beyonce concert fund from now. If you’re interested in going to the concert with me, let me know. We can go togethergether. All together now: “To the left, to the left”.

Goodbye, boys!

Posted in movies on August 27, 2007 by suziemclean

I wrote a nice, long blog entry about Goodbye Boys but now it is gone.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I just found out that my hometown Tg Tualang is featured in a local movie called Goodbye Boys.

Goodbye Boys

I caught just a few minutes of the movie on my way out yesterday afternoon. Since I haven’t seen the movie, it would not be fair for me to actually review it. But you can read all about it here. Kamm would be interested to know that the movie is supposedly about 5 boys who attended St Michael’s Institution in 1990. They were in Form Five then though. Kamm and I were still in primary school then :-P

Anywho, I would like to see that movie one of these days. If only to catch glimpses of my hometown Tg Tualang and Ipoh, where I lived for five years.

Better get back to work. Ciao people!

Oh Shea you’re so fine.. you’re so fine you blow my mind..

I just finished watching Disturbia on dvd and I cannot be more in crush with Shea LeBouf that I already am. *Earlier, at about 1am today, I saw Transformers again*. He’s so cute and I cannot believe he is only 21.

Disturbia

He was really funny in Transformers and in Disturbia, I am seeing another layer of his acting skills. He’s still hilarious when the scene requires him to be but the conviction on his face when he was kicking the serial killer’s ass to save his mom is so believable. And I loved the way his chin quivered with so much rage when the serial killer described how he would slit his mom’s throat and put the blame on Kale, his character in the movie. The emotion was kind of hard to be conveyed because his whole mouth area was covered with duct tape. So, yes, Shea is not just a comedian, he can do serious drama too.

I cannot wait to see him as the young Indiana Jones next.

Christina Aguilera – Pero Me Acuerdo De Ti

And this is her first single from the Mi Reflejo album.

CONTIGO EN LA DISTANCIA ..

is my other favourite song from Mi Reflejo album. Say what you want about Christina Aguilera, but she’s one helluva singer!

A beautiful love song

You may not agree with me but I think this song, Si No Te Hubiera Conocido, a duet between Christina Aguilera and Luis Fonsi, is THE best love song since Endless Love (Lionel Richie/Diana Ross or Luther Vandross/Mariah Carey)

If you’re wondering why you have never heard of it before, that’s probably because it is in Spanish. That and also because a video of the song was NEVER made. This YouTube video is, as you can see, created using Fonsi’s and Aguilera’s other videos with Si No Te Hubiera Conocido as the background music.

I first heard this song when I bought Aguilera’s Spanish album, Mi Reflejo, which was released after her My Reflection album. (Mi Reflejo is My Reflection in Spanish, if you were wondering).

This album has sentimental value for me. I listened to this album on my Sony discman every single day (for a good month or two) on the way to work in 2001. At the time, I was staying with my sister in Flat Sri Angkasa and I travelled to work by bus, 46D to be precise. Believe it or not, til today I can sing some of the songs — yes, Genie in a Bottle (Genio Atrapado) and Come on Over (Ven Conmigo) in Spanish — by heart, imperfect pronunciation notwithstanding :-P

I love all of the songs in the album but this, and another ballad called Contigo en La Distancia, are my favourites.I can listen to the two songs on repeat the whole day. I swear!

Believe it or not, I don’t know how the Fonsi looks like until today, watching this video. *Thank god for YouTube eh?* But I have always thought he had a good voice.

I’m going to post Contigo en La Distancia after this. Hope you’ll take the time to watch them because they are beautiful, beautiful songs indeed. Enjoy!
